Shawan Downs, & USET Foundation

The Maryland Combined Training Association was created in 1972 by Willis Lynch, riding director at McDonogh School, and Charles “Bucky” Laubach, McDonogh graduate. In 2003, forces were joined to establish the MCTA Horse Trials at Shawan Downs. Since the inception in 2003, the Horse Trials has increased the number of entries from 175 to almost 500 and added intermediate and advanced levels. 2007 will include an international event, a CIC three star. With this Salute at Shawan Downs, we hope to establish a fund for the creation of a “world class” show ring.

Shawan Downs is an equestrian event center that was established on three hundred acres of farmland as a way of preserving the landscape’s agricultural legacy while at the same time providing a venue to celebrate the land and the horse through equestrian events that benefit local charities.

The United States Equestrian Team Foundation supports equestrian athletes, promotes international excellence, and builds for the future of equestrian sports. Established as a not-for-profit organization, the USET Foundation’s role is to help provide funding for the High Performance competition, training, coaching, travel, and educational needs of America’s elite and developing athletes and horses in partnership in with the United States Equestrian Federation.
